To many Winter Park locals, Kraft Azalea Garden needs no introduction. This 5-plus-acre public garden is a hotspot of a location for engagement photos, attracting many with its lush green surroundings, stunning views of Lake Maitland, and its signature stone columns "The Exedra"(which you can see in the top photo).
So when I got the call from my childhood friend Jasmine that her & her fiance Jaime would be visiting Orlando and wanted to shoot their engagement photos with me, I had only one location in mind, and it turned out so much better than I imagined it would.
We decided to shoot around sunset in order to get the best lighting, and luckily for us, the sun sets in such a way on the garden and Lake Maitland that, depending on which direction you shoot, can make for either beautiful, even lighting on your subjects or create a breath-taking silhouette!
Not only did we take shots at the Exedra, we also utilized the surrounding green areas, as well as the Rollins College boathouse's dock. As a former rower who competed in two regattas on Lake Maitland, it was weird to step back on that dock for something completely different. However, the water was very high that evening(thanks to non-stop rain we Floridians are "blessed" with), and the end of the dock had a large puddle which turned a typically-dingey looking wood dock into a sleek, photogenic dock.
If you are thinking of taking your engagement photos at Kraft Azalea Garden - do it! Whether you're an Orlando local or popping in as an out-of-town guest visiting the theme parks, it's an extremely romantic location that is well suited for engagement photos. Not inspired yet?
